About Equine Genetics and Genomics lab

U of MN Equine Genetics Group

The mission of the Equine Genetics and Genomics Research Group is to use advanced genetic and genomic technologies to improve our understanding of equine health and biology.

Our goals are:

  • to use state-of-the-art molecular genetics and genomics tools to study complex genetic disease, physiological variation and genetic diversity in equine populations.
  • to generate knowledge that will enable veterinarians to better predict, diagnose, and treat disease.
  • to improve the health of companion animals, livestock, and humans through the use of the horse as a biomedical model.
  • to engage in collaborative research efforts with other researchers, veterinarians, and horse and dog owners to address relevant needs of the equine and canine communities.
