The mission of the Office of the Associate Dean for Research (OADR) is to empower College of Veterinary Medicine researchers to conduct important and innovative research that impacts animal, human, and environmental health.

Dr. Alonso Guedes is a DVM, MS, PhD, board certified specialist in veterinary anesthesia and pain medicine and Associate Professor of Anesthesia in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. His current research is centered on developing strategies to mitigate opioid use, including the development of non-opioid technologies for the treatment of chronic pain in veterinary and human medicine and strategies to lessen the burden of opioid use disorder in humans.

Adrienne manages the day-to-day administration of CVM's training grants as well as their pre-award and post-award processes. She collaboratively works to sustain CVM's current research and expand the collaborations, mentoring, funding, and infrastructure necessary to support new research. Adrienne is tasked with overseeing internal/external sales development and the processes around Reportable Diseases. She also organizes faculty on-boarding, the Fellowship Grant Writing Group, and the Faculty Grant Writing Group. Adrienne brings a broad range of knowledge of the UMN system and sponsored projects, as well as experience from managing in the business sector that she leverages for the greater good of CVM research.

As director of the research office, Shannon incorporates efficiency and strategic thinking into our office operations and priorities. Her specialties lie in leveraging technology to automate processes, reducing faculty and staff burden, and creating systems to collect the necessary data to measure impact and outcomes. She provides strategic administrative support to the Associate Dean of Research and supervises the research office team members. Shannon also provides overall leadership of the pre-award team at the college by managing our proposal information systems, creating new tools and templates to better ensure consistency, and serving on the university's Grants Management User Network Advisory Committee.
