Research Ethics Day panel on AI in research kicks off RIDE Seminar Series on Feb. 27

On Feb. 27, the University of Minnesota (UMN) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) will host an interactive panel tackling the ethics of using artificial intelligence (AI) in research.
“Research in an A.I. World: Balancing Innovation and Integrity” will be moderated by Peter Larsen, assistant professor at CVM, and will feature panelists Dr. Joseph Konstan, associate dean for research, UMN College of Sciences and Engineering; Dr. Gerard Cramer, associate professor at CVM; Manci Li, gracuate student at CVM; Dr. Jonah Cullen, postdoctoral associate at CVM; Drew Swartz, graduate student at CVM; and AI program ChatGPT.
The panel will run from noon to 1 p.m. and will be held in person in Room 215 of the Ben Pomeroy Alumni-Student Learning Center and virtually through Zoom.

The event is part of UMN’s Research Ethics Day programming and kicks off CVM’s Research, Innovation, Discovery, and Education (RIDE) Seminar Series, which will offer a platform for cutting-edge exploration and discussion in the field of veterinary biomedical research. The series will bring engaging experts from diverse disciplines to present their latest findings, methodologies, and innovations to foster a dynamic exchange of ideas.
“The RIDE Seminars will serve as a catalyst for collaboration and intellectual growth, promoting advancements that contribute to the forefront of One Health biomedical knowledge and its applications in animal healthcare,” says Kevin Lang, an assistant professor at CVM and chair of the college’s Seminars Subcommittee.
The RIDE Seminar Series is collaboratively organized by the CVM Office of the Associate Dean for Research and the CVM Research Committee.
