On Friday, March 24th, 2023, VBS Professor Tim Johnson hosted a MnDRIVE Mini Symposium in the Cargill Building. The aim of the event was to bring together individuals working in academia, the public health sector, agriculture, and affiliated industries to discuss foodborne outbreaks of Salmonella.

Discussions with experts included VBS Professor Randy Singer, representatives from the MN Department of Health and CDC, food safety defense attorney Alyssa Rebensdorf of Faegre Drinker in Minneapolis, and world-renowned food safety litigation attorney Bill Marler. The discussions included biological perspectives around Salmonella in animals, the role of Health Departments in outbreaks, CDC outbreak investigations, challenges and misperceptions of Salmonella control in poultry, and behind the scenes insights from the litigation perspective. There were over 85 attendees present, and the event was sponsored by MnDRIVE, CFANS, and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
