Transfer students

University of Minnesota sign behind flowers

Each year, the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine considers transfer applicants in years two, three, and four of the DVM program. The application window is late March to late April. Applicants are accepted for a program start of fall semester, on a space available basis as seats become available. This may not be known until mid-May. Candidates who are not reviewed due to a lack of available seats will be refunded their application fee. Transfers into the second semester (spring) of the second and third years of the DVM program are considered only on the occasion of an extreme extenuating circumstance.

Curricula are unique from institution to institution. Placement is contingent on DVM coursework already completed and coursework needing completion according to the U of M DVM curriculum. Accepted applicants will be placed in the year or semester of the curriculum deemed appropriate after analysis and equivalency of the required courses involved have been verified.

All applicants must be from a DVM program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (pdf) and are required to have finished at least one full academic year at the institution from which transfer is requested. Applicants must be in good academic standing at the time of discontinuance according to written verification from the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs or Dean of that institution.

Our full transfer policy statement can be reviewed here. (pdf)
