2022 CVM Points of Pride Research Day Highlights

The Office of the Associate Dean for Research and the Office of Graduate Programs at the College of Veterinary Medicine hosted Points of Pride Research Day 2022 on Thursday, April 7. Research Day is an annual event which allows CVM researchers to showcase their science and be recognized for accomplishments. Events included info-graphic presentations, video abstract submissions, and an award ceremony. VBS researchers contributed to the day in the following categories:

INFOGRAPHIC SUBMISSIONS
  Dora Zucko, advised by VBS Professor Kathleen Boris-Lawrie presented, "What does  baseball have to do with RNA and how dogs help us understand cancer?"
  Manci Li, advised by VBS Assistant Professor Peter Larsen presented, "Self-organized emergence of hyaline cartilage in hiPSC-derived multi-tissue organoids"
  Natalie Kirk advised by VBS Professor Hinh Ly presented, "Developing an Effective Tuberculosis Vaccine" (1st place winner in the Infographic category-congratulations Natalie!)
  Shania Sanchez advised by VBS Professors Yuying Liang and Hinh Ly presented, "Development of new therapeutics to treat viral respiratory disease."
  Evan Kipp advised by VBS Assistant Professor Peter Larsen presented, "Improved detection and surveillance of tick-borne pathogens with nanopore adaptive sequencing."
  Lexi Frank advised by VBS Assistant Professor Peter Larsen presented, "How Does a Vampire Bat's Environmental Change its Risk of Carrying a Disease?"
  Anna Jaeger advised by VBS Assistant Professor Matt Aliota presented, "How can we prepare for the next arboviral pandemic?"

  Kristin Snyder advised by VBS Professor Bruce Walcheck presented, "Enhancing Natural Killer cell ADCC for the treatment of ovrarian cancer."
  Anders Matson advised by VBS Professor Bruce Walcheck presented, "Enhancement of natural killer cell proliferation to improve cancer cell killing."
  Ellie Bohm advised by VBS Assistant Professor Matt Aliota presented, "Understanding how Zika Virus causes Adverse Birth Outcomes."

2021 ZOETIS AWARD FOR VETERINARY RESEARCH EXCELLENCE
  Fang Li, VBS Professor, Endowed Professor of Structural Biology of Disease, and Director of the Center for Coronavirus Research was the esteemed recipient of the 2021 Zoetis award. Please visit the CVM Research Day bio page to learn more about Dr. Li and his work.
