Your generosity sustains us

From scholarships that support students pursuing a DVM degree, to research advancing diseases such as cancer and epilepsy in animals and humans, to treatments in our hospitals, there are a variety of ways to support the College of Veterinary Medicine. Choose how you would like to make a difference.

Coronavirus research

Most people have only recently started paying attention to coronaviruses, but they have long plagued animal health across various species. At the College of Veterinary Medicine, our team of investigators has longstanding expertise in investigating coronaviruses in contexts across and between diverse species, and are now applying their extensive knowledge to the coronavirus causing COVID-19.

Scholarships and fellowships

By providing scholarships and fellowships to support our students in today’s challenging economic climate, you’re investing in the future of veterinary medicine.

Gifts from alumni and friends help us advance veterinary medicine in Minnesota and the world, and continuing generosity provides numerous opportunities for students. Most importantly they encourage students to pursue their passion of serving animals, people, and society and reach their most cherished goal.

Scholarships at the College of Veterinary Medicine

Two students in blue scrubsScholarships strengthen our academic community because they recruit talented new students from diverse backgrounds to Minnesota, benefiting us all. The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) offers scholarships to students throughout the course of their veterinary education. CVM scholarships recognize students for achievements such as:

  • Academic excellence
  • Clinical proficiency
  • Leadership and community service
  • Business aptitude

Scholarships can support students on a specific academic track, for example students working toward a DVM/MPH combined degree or students studying food animal medicine. You can support veterinary students by creating a scholarship, donating to an existing scholarship, or by making a donation to an education program.

Fellowships at the College of Veterinary Medicine

Students in a laboratoryRecruiting top graduate students makes it possible for the University to conduct world-class research. The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine is one of only 28 Colleges of Veterinary Medicine in the United States to offer master’s and doctoral degrees. CVM Graduate Students work in a collaborative research environment and have the opportunity to draw on the expertise of basic researchers as well as the applied research skills of board certified clinicians as part of an interdisciplinary research team.

Creating or supporting an endowed fellowship allows you to have a significant impact in an area that is particularly meaningful to you. Additionally, fellowships are a great way to support both students and research at CVM.

Nestle Purina Memories Garden

Located near the Veterinary Medical Center, this small, secluded garden serves to celebrate the memories of all animals that have touched a human life. We invite you to purchase a brick engraved with your own special inscription honoring your pet’s life and your special relationship.

Minnesota Veterinary Historical Museum

This fund supports the Minnesota Veterinary Historical Museum, which works to preserve the legacy of the veterinary profession in Minnesota through exhibits.

Community Veterinary Medicine

These funds help support the community outreach programs that serve Minneapolis low-income and underserved reservation pet owners, and at the same time give valuable hands-on client experience to our DVM students.

Celebrating your impact

The students we serve are the heart of our college, and we celebrate their accomplishments, along with the donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends who generously support funding on their behalf.

Your generosity allows our college to award scholarships and fellowships to CVM students to support their dreams of making an impact in the world of veterinary medicine. Philanthropy helps to lift the burden of debt from these students while they pursue their degree, and makes a crucial investment in not only their dreams, but in the wellbeing of the animals, people, and communities they will serve in Minnesota, and beyond.
