Virus transmission between bee species does not lead to new variants

A new study led by CVM's Declan Schroeder, in collaboration with the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, found that viruses transmitted from honeybees to bumblebees did not lead to new viral variants. The findings—published in Communications Biology—offer rare encouraging news for pollinator health and suggest bumblebees may act as dead-end hosts for certain honeybee viruses.
