Molgaard named interim dean

June 25, 2019

Sr. assoc. dean for academic and student affairs, Laura Molgaard, DVM, will serve as interim dean beginning August 5. Below is the text of the letter sent to the College community regarding the appointment of Laura Molgaard as interim dean.

Dear College of Veterinary Medicine Faculty and Staff,

Thanks again to all of you who responded to my request for nominations for an interimdean for the college.

I am pleased to announce that Laura Molgaard, DVM, will serve as interim dean, effective August 5. On that date, Dean Trevor Ames will assume his new role as associate vice president for academic health sciences; and, in the meantime, Senior Associate Dean Molgaard and Dean Ames will collaborate to ensure a smooth administrative transition in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

An associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Population Medicine, Laura has been a member of the CVM faculty since 1997, and part of the college leadership team for 18 years. In her role as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and previously as Associate Dean, she has overseen the college’s DVM educational program and has worked collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to advance excellence in curriculum, teaching, and student support. She has had oversight responsibility for recruitment, admissions, accreditation, outcomes assessment, and policies related to students. A leader in the profession statewide and internationally, Laura was honored in February with the Outstanding Faculty Award of the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association.

I am confident that Laura will provide steady and collaborative interim leadership for the college as we move forward with a national search for a permanent dean. I’m confident, too, that the college is well-positioned for a successful national search, given Trevor Ames’ outstanding leadership over the last 12 years. The dean search will be launched early in this fall semester, with the aim of having the next dean in place by the end of the next academic year. I look forward to working with Interim DeanMolgaard, the college leadership team, and all of you, as we turn toward the future.

Sincerely,
Karen Hanson
Executive Vice President and Provost
