2026 CVM Education Day Highlights

On Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, the Office of Academic and Student Affairs partnered with the College of Veterinary Medicine to host the annual CVM Education  Day. Education Day provides an opportunity for faculty, students, and staff to recognize fellow educators as well as promote educational advancements and teaching techniques. VBS Participants and award winners included the following categories:

1. Posters

• Emily Truckenbrod, Sarah Brown, & Ryan Rupprecht submitted "Using gradescope to improve the efficiency of grading anatomy lab practical exams"
• Abby Brown (Technician Teaching Team) & Sue Spence submitted, "Closing the gap: A scaffolded framework to improve Year 1 DVM student confidence in sterility basics."

2. Knowledge Exchange Sessions

• Emily Truckenbrod, Abby Brown (TTT), Perle Zhitnitskiy (VCS), and Ruthanne Chun were panelists for the discussion, "A Lunchtime Conversation: Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Veterinary Medicine"
• Chris Hergenrader facilitated the 'Swap Shop discussion group-Evolving Technology.' The discussion focus was on strategies for acknowledging and integrating AI tools into teaching activities and course design.
• Abby Brown (TTT) facilitated the 'Swap Shop discussion group-Fostering intrinsic motivation.' The discussion focus for this was to explore strategies for fostering student motivation and self-direction while navigating the professional expectations of veterinary medicine.

3. 2026 VBS Teaching Awards

• "VBS Outstanding Teacher" awarded to VBS Professor David Brown
• "Excellence in Teaching Award for Undergraduate Courses" was presented to VBS Assistant Professor Chris Hergenrader
• "Excellence in Instructional Support and Teaching award for Staff" was presented to Tanya Heacock (TTT)
