With Governor Walz’s signature, just over $1.8 million will flow from the Minnesota Environmental Trust Fund to support the development of a rapid and reliable diagnostic test for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).
Environmental Trust Fund to support five projects that CVM faculty are either leading or involved in. The largest project will develop a rapid and reliable diagnostic test for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). If successful, the $1.8 million, two-year effort will lead to a hand-held device capable of field testing a variety of substances for the presence of CWD.
Out of the 23 veterinary graduate students nationwide who applied for the Early Stage Investigator Award, Elaine Norton, DVM, MS, PhD student, and Sian Durward-Akhurst, BVMS, MS, PhD student, have both been selected as finalists. Only five finalists were chosen.

PAUL, MINNESOTA, MAY 2019 --- With new funding from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund, researchers from the University of Minnesota, Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, and Virginia Tech University are collaborating to improve moose survival and health by mapping brainworm transmission in northern Minnesota.
