In September the University celebrated the inauguration of Joan T.A. Gabel as the 17th president of the University of Minnesota.
Prior to the formal ceremonies, President Gabel participated in hands-on activities across four days. Those activities featured students, faculty and staff, and highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the University’s mission. VBS Assistant Professor Peter Larsen demonstrated the miniature components of his mobile lab equipment that he has taken around the world to collect and process genetic samples. Joining Larsen in showcasing the technology to President Gabel were Postdoctoral Associate Laramie Lindsey and graduate student Nusrat Annie Jahan, along with Interim Dean Laura Molgaard.
Gabel plans to visit the University’s system campuses and is looking for additional opportunities to learn more about the University’s diverse programs. To propose a future visit to the CVM by President Gabel, contact Martin Moen
