Study title

Longitudinal Analysis of Gait in Puppies to Adulthood

Purpose of study

The UMN Canine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Service is doing a study analyzing the gait and coordination of puppies as they grow into an adult. To help determine developmental landmarks for training, improve puppy physical fitness safely, and to be able to potentially detect developmental diseases earlier.

Eligibility criteria

Puppies must:

  • be 5-9 weeks old

  • can be any breed, weight and gender

  • be free of significant lameness or limb deformities that affect gait

Procedures

Data is collected by the puppy walking over a gait analysis mat while being filmed. The procedure takes around 30 minutes and will be collected 9-10 times over the first year.

Costs

There are no costs to the owner associated with participating in this study.
