Study title

Serum Collection in Dogs with Early Stage Cancers

Purpose of study

The goal of this research is to test blood samples from dogs with early stage cancers to determine both new approaches for the early diagnosis/screening as well as new ways to potentially treat or prevent cancer in dogs.

Eligibility criteria

  • Any dog with a malignant tumor that has not spread
  • Is undergoing diagnostic tests or treatment with a veterinary oncologist at the Veterinary Medical Center
  • Has not had prednisone in the past three (3) weeks prior to sampling

Procedures

A blood sample will be obtained by a blood draw, usually at the time other samples are being collected for routine diagnostic tests (CBC, Chemistry profile).

This sample is then processed and stored in special ways to optimally preserve it. We will also collect information about the participant such as date of birth, diagnosis, diagnostic tests performed, and date of diagnosis. This information is deidentified (anonymized) and stored in a secure database.

Costs

There are no costs to participate in this study. Owners are responsible for any tests or procedures as part of the medical care they elect for their pet.
