Summary

Debra Freedman, PhD, is the Education Manager of the Food Protection and Defense Institute, Online Learning Program Manager of the Integrated Food Systems Leadership program, and a member of the CVM Office of Online Learning Team at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Freedman serves as the Education Manager of the Food Protection and Defense Institute. She is responsible for managing the Institute’s educational portfolio: focused on work force readiness and workplace learning. Working with a variety of stakeholders, including, researchers and scholars, government officials (USDA, FDA, DHS), food industry professionals, public school teachers, and Emergency Responders (e.g., Law Enforcement), she develops teaching materials, workshops, certificate programs, professional courses, and training guides.

In addition, Dr. Freedman is the Online Learning Program Manager for the Integrated Food Systems Leadership Program, an online learning program dedicated to improving the leadership and systems thinking capabilities of early to mid-career professionals affiliated with any aspect of the food system. She is responsible for developing learner-centered, collaborative online course offerings; working with a diverse group of faculty members and staff from the College of Veterinary Medicine, the School of Public Health, and the College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences; and working with marketers to develop advertising campaign.

Dr. Freedman is also a member of the CVM Office of Online Learning Team at the University of Minnesota. In this role she works collaborates with faculty and developers to provide inspiration and creation options for online learning projects specific to continuing education.

Dr. Freedman has been working in the curriculum field for over 20 years. She is an experienced educator, curriculum scholar, researcher, and learner. Her passions include education, learning, curriculum development, instructor/learner experience, and creative program design, development, and delivery. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, she was an Online Learning Consultant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada and an Associate Professor in the College of Education at the Pennsylvania State University.
